Wongai (Gubbi Gubbi) - The Kitchen Garden
Burpengary State School has run a Kitchen Garden Program for the last seven years .
The children spend time in the garden growing produce. They learn how to grow herbs and vegetables from seeds collected as well as seedlings and learn the history of where they originate from. They also tend a large bush tucker garden based around the food eaten by the traditional Gubbi Gubbi People.
In the kitchen, the students use the produce grown in the garden to cook various foods that they then eat. You will find the recipes we use in our recipes folder.
We rely heavily on parent volunteers in the garden and especially in the kitchen. If you can spare an hour, have a talk to your child’s teacher or contact Ross Tattersall at the school.
